Piston Ringset
Category Description
“Black Panther” Piston Rings
Description:
A piston ring is a small and relatively inexpensive part working in a complex and very expensive engine. Unless the piston ring is functioning perfectly, the engine will lose efficiency with consequential reduction in power, increase in wear and increased fuel consumption. Thus, it is of great importance that this crucial component is manufactured to the very highest quality standard.
Piston rings have three important functions in modern engines:
1. They seal the combustion chamber from the crankcase.
2. They limit and regulate the oil consumption.
3. They dissipate the heat that is taken up by the pistons during combustion to the cooled cylinder bore.
“Black Panther” piston rings comply in every respect with the strict original equipment standards—thanks to high-quality materials and precise manufacturing processes.. Black Panther Piston rings surpassed durability and highly efficient dynamic sealing properties, With Black Panther piston rings you get better fuel efficiency, low emissions and long overhaul intervals.
The machine shop comprise of CNC, SPM and conventional machine to achieve quality with competitive edge.
All piston rings confirm to DIN standard for material composition, micro-structure, machining tolerances, Tangential load, Light tightness, coating thickness and its hardness
Raw Materials:
Piston rings are made from one of the following materials as per standards of Engine makers.
Ø GG 40 - A Pearlitic medium Phosphorous Grey Iron, because of its inherent wear resistance, good machinability and relatively low cost is the most common basic material being used for regular application, intermediate and oil control rings
Ø GGG 60 - being one of the highest tensile strength material. High strength ductile material is best suited for rings which are subjected to heavy thermal loads & high dynamic stresses. These rings have high resistance against bending, wear & breakage.
Ø Steel rings – This grade is used for Top ring as well as 3 pc oil rings as per OEM standards defined by manufacturer
Casting Facilities:
Piston rings are cast individually by stack Molding method combining casting of Large as well as small diameter rings to achieve economy in production. Barrel casting methods which are cheaper and yield more production, are not used to as quality of casting in individual cast method is far more superior. According to engine makers standards, alloying elements are added to get better life span of piston rings when running in extreme working conditions.
The foundry is equipped with online spectro analyzer, metallurgical and wet chemical laboratory among the other equipments such as hardness tester.
Machine Shop Facilities:
Ø CNC/SPM Lathes
Ø Double disc Surface Grinders
Ø Heat treatment & Tensioning furnace
Ø Barrel Honing
Ø Cam turning
Ø Face Lapping Machine
Coatings:
Piston rings are coated from one of the followings as per standards of Engine makers (OEM’s).
Ø Chrome Plated - The electroplated chromium layer reduces wear on both the piston ring itself and on its friction partner: the running surface of the cylinder or liner. It thus helps to ensure that the total life of both the piston ring set and the cylinder are similar.
Ø Manganese Phosphate Coated - With phosphating, crystalline phosphates are deposited on all surfaces of the piston rings except chrome-plated. The phosphate layer has a thickness of 0.002-0.005 mm. and improves the running in behavior of the piston ring by increasing the adhesion of the oil. Furthermore, the phosphate layer has a certain anti-corrosive effect during long storage periods even under damp conditions. Prevents corrosion and eliminates galling of rings during startup and break-in; used on iron or steel compression rings
Ø Tin Plated - Tinned surfaces
with a minimum layer thickness of 0.002 mm, ensure good running-in
behavior. Because the soft tin layer avoids scuffing between the piston ring
and the running surface of the cylinder like the layer of phosphate.
In addition, tin layer is a good protection against rust.
Ø Copper Coated- Used if application demands
Quality Control & Inspection:
Ø 100% online inspection of rings after completion of each machining operation.
Ø 100% inspection of close gap and Outer diameter in gauge.
Ø 100% inspection for visual defects
Ø 100% inspection for light tightness in gauge guarantees full performance and no leakage. Hence savings on lubricating oil, better Horse power and no back pressure.
Ø Final inspection by statically checking of Axial and Radial thickness, Tangential load, surface roughness, Close gap, parallelism & Hardness.
